Update From the PQ Towne Council and Planning Board on 8/22

Update From the PQ Towne Council and Planning Board:

We are so close to getting the Redistricting Commission to change their decision with only one more meeting to make our case! Everyone has been getting petitions signed and we couldn’t go anywhere in PQ without seeing the support for keeping PQ united in proposed District 5. We have come very far and the end is in sight! Here are a few things we need from YOU to make this happen and ways to show your support:

1) We need everyone to go to the 2:00 pm Redistricting Commission hearing today, Monday, August 22, 2011, at the City Council Chambers, 12th Floor, 202 "C" Street, San Diego, CA 92101 to show our cause is very important to us. Please bring hand-held signs "ONE PQ IN D5". The Banners can potentially be taped downstairs at the entrance, but don't bring those upstairs.

2) Get to the meeting EARLY (12:30-1:00 p.m. preferably) and FILL IN THE SEATS! Don’t mill around and talk to friends, sit in your seat and if possible, save a seat or two around you for latecomers! This is so our supporters will be in the Council Chambers and easily recognized by the Commission. The City will not allow anyone to stand in the Council Chambers. All must be seated or delegated to one of the holding rooms outside of Chambers.

3) All of your enthusiasm, passion and even some of your anger has served us well and got us as close as we are to our ultimate goal of One PQ in D5. THANK YOU; you have gotten the Commissioners' attention in a way no one thought possible a week ago. However, we need a different strategy Monday. The Commissioners must complete their work tomorrow and they have a potentially long night ahead of them. We cannot afford for them to be at anything but their very best all the way through to the end of the meeting. Therefore, we must be respectful of the Commissions' time by not clapping, loudly waving your hand signs, or booing. One of our speakers will mention this early in the meeting.

4) Unless you feel strongly about speaking or have something new to add, we do not need you to speak at this meeting. However we do need you to fill out speaker slips requesting your time be deferred to others. Hand them to any of our organizers and they will fill in who your time will be deferred to. This will again let the Commissioners know you are there (every name will be read into the record) while still respecting their time. ("Request to Speak" forms will be found on a table just inside the Council Chambers)

5) We need everyone to also fill out a written statement form (also found on a table just inside the Council Chambers) requesting the Commission support the “Keep PQ Whole in D5 map”. Please feel free to add
your own reasons to this request.

6) Send an email today to the Commission and let them know you support keeping PQ together in the proposed District 5 and that you support the map titled "Keep PQ Whole in D5". redistricting_2010@sandiego.gov<mailto:redistricting_2010@sandiego.gov>

Please trust that the organizers and petition gatherers of this fight to keep our community together have worked very hard and labored all hours sacrificing much (as we know you have) to keep our community together. You can show your support by coming to the meeting today, August 22nd in droves and letting the commissioners know you appreciate everyone’s effort!
