Redistricting 2010 and Penasquitos; CALL TO ACTION 2

Subject: Redistricting 2010 and Penasquitos; CALL TO ACTION 2
Dear Friends of Penasquitos and Park Village: (forward this to all who care about keeping PV and PQ united – also post on RPTC and RPPB mailing lists please)

THANKS to all the folks that showed Monday the 15th.  The Redistricting Commission has at least opened themselves up to the need to re-unite Park Village with Penasquitos.  Thank you to Jeanette Waltz, Jon Becker, and Paul Hoover for excellent presentations and bringing the crowd.  You have won a battle, but the war remains to be fought to its hopeful victorious end.

The fight is not over yet.  The next important meeting is August 18th, City Council Chambers, City Hall, 12th Floor – meeting starts at 4:00pm, you will have to go through a metal detector, so be prepared.

Here are Andy Berg’s thoughts after he spoke with Commissioners after last Monday’s meeting.  Giving us hope there might be a chance on Thursday to ride the tidal wave of Monday’s public testimony to a successful outcome for Park Village and Penasquitos. – Thanks Andy.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET ANOTHER GREAT TURN OUT FROM PARK VILLAGE AND PENASQUITOS ON THURSDAY THE 18th.  AT LEAST 100 PEOPLE ARE NEEDED AGAIN!!!

“After speaking with a number of commissioners after last night's meeting (I finally got home at 10), I believe the only the way the Commission can make this work for us is if they instead split Scripps Ranch and put their southernmost 10,000 in D6.  I think we can make a number of points that show this to be more logical than splitting PQ:

1.  There is precedence.  Scripps has been split in the past.  PQ hasn't.

2.  Scripps has always been in a district with Mira Mesa.  PQ hasn't.  In fact, Scripps and Mira Mesa have much in common and consider themselves sister communities.

3.  This is the most important one:  The Commission's own findings make it more logical to keep all of PQ in D5.  Their second finding says "In accordance with public testimony, a group of neighborhoods was kept together
based upon the community of interest formed by their inclusion in the Poway Unified School District."   All of PQ is in the Poway School District.  The southern part of Scripps Ranch is not.

I really believe the argument is that simple and we need as many people as possible to make that argument on Thursday night.  Also, we should insist that the Commission take a vote as to which community to split and put their rationale on the record.”

IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET ANOTHER GREAT TURN OUT FROM PARK VILLAGE AND PENASQUITOS ON THURSDAY THE 18th.  AT LEAST 100 PEOPLE ARE NEEDED AGAIN!!! CITY HALL, 12th Floor, City Council Chambers 4:00pm.
