Dear Redistricting Commission,
We just learned that a new redistricting proposal has the Park Village area of Penasquitos placed with Mira Mesa, Clairemont Mesa and Miramar. This makes absolutely NO sense at all. Park Village families share neither school district (we are part of the Poway Unified School District) nor income and population demographics (we are more like Rancho Bernardo, Black Mountain Ranch and Torrey Highlands).
From what we've read and heard, it sounds like a *non-Park Village" lobbying group is attempting to pull Park Village out of PQ's current and more appropriate district for purely political purposes. Interestingly, *none* of the Park Village residents I know were aware of this proposed carve out until now. And those I know who now *are* aware *all* feel that the proposed redistricting is a very bad idea:
1) -Park Village won't receive adequate representation being part of District 6 (Mira Mesa, Kearny Mesa, Linda Vista & Clairemont).
-We'd be only 5% of the District population and physically isolated.
2) -It's a waste of City money. Two Council reps at each Planning Board, Town Council, etc meetings.
3) -There'd be coordination issues with two Council Districts having to coordinate with each other. Differing opinions will likely lead to inaction.
4) -It would be inefficient for volunteers, having to check with two Council offices on numerous issues.
5) -Park Village would be the *only* portion of the Poway school district not in District 5.
PLEASE listen to the voices of the *Park Village* residents; please do *not* carve us out!
Thank you for listening.
Respectfully,
Your Name
Your Address
Your City, State and Zip
Thanks,
Paul Hoover
